Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown

Project Summary

Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown was the long-awaited latest entry in the Ace Combat series, released in 2019 on the PS4, XBox One, and PC (via Steam). It was created in Unreal Engine 4, and received generally favorable reviews, with the physical console versions setting a new sales record in the series in the United Kingdom.
For the multiplayer component, which I worked on, there are 2 main modes; Team Deathmatch and Battle Royal. For each of the modes, there are 6 maps, each with different settings, cloud formations, and overall gameplay.

Project Description

As a Multiplayer Mission Level Designer, I helped to work on all aspects of the multiplayer component. I assisted in creating and maintaining the design documentation such as the multiplayer game systems and level designs, worked together with the animation team for the design of the multiplayer cutscenes, and helped the QA department and engineering department for bug support.

  • Helped in designing multiplayer game systems (matchmaking, game rules, UI) and working with relevant departments for implementation.
  • Worked on writing and maintaining design documentation.
  • Designed and implemented multiplayer levels, including level scripting.
  • Created tools for various departments such as debug commands, excel spreadsheet simulators, and batch files.
  • Assisted in solving bugs and liaising with all relevant departments.
  • Organized internal playtests and cross-studio playtests to test network stability and gameplay.
